Professionals in the physician services and healthcare sector, in a recent press release, urged Americans to take advantage of the summer months, by planning outside activities, as well as exercising, in order to achieve good health, as well as a state of mental well-being.
According to recent studies, healthcare professionals – from hospital physicians to nutritionists – believe that stress is a major barrier in achieving optimal health for Americans.
“The average American probably doesn’t realize they’re not setting aside enough time to focus on developing and maintaining smart health and wellness habits,” Forberg said. “Summer months offer an opportunity to change poor health habits.”
Close to 90 percent of healthcare professionals, in a study focusing on stress in relation to patient care, reported that top offenders related to stress are staying indoors, lack of physical activity, and poor nutrition.
Healthcare expert, Dr. Frank J. Sileo, who practices psychology in New Jersey, advises people who suffer from stress and depression to consider seeking help, but to be open with medical physicians as well, so all healthcare professionals can work together to give the best patient care possible.
“It is important for psychologists to work in collaboration with primary care physicians, specialists, dietitians, and other professionals interfacing with the patient to provide a team approach and to work together on behalf of the patient’s overall well-being and care,” said Dr. Sileo. “Medical doctors need to be open to the mental health aspects of medical illness and to educate their patients and refer patients to mental health professionals on an ongoing basis.”
