Hospital Physicians News: The overall hospital-based palliative care grade in the US rose from a “C” in 2008 to a “B”, according to American Medical News. This new performance mark was released in October by researchers at the Center to Advance Palliative Care, a New York nonprofit that helps hospitals set up palliative care operations.
Palliative care teams are a form of team care, whereby physicians, nurses, work together to not only help treat the patient’s symptoms, but also address other symptoms, discharge matters, psychosocial, and family burdens. Yet, the growth of these teams has been uneven. Many hospitals have struggled with this and other types of needed physician services. The availability of palliative care services also is limited by the small number of specialty trained physicians and nurses.
