Nobody knows how to deliver service with a smile, quite like The Walt Disney Co. And it seems more and more folks in the physician services sector are utilizing the company to train staff — everyone from hospital physicians to parking attendants.
Hospitals are just one of many types of service providers to benefit from Disney’s consulting services. Kaiser Health News reported that recent changes in Medicare payments have allowed the company a golden opportunity to reach out to hospitalists and other types of physician service providers.
Disney’s efforts in working with healthcare organizations is to teach staff members best practices in terms of patient care.
“They (Disney) are shrewdly capitalizing on the fear and concerns of hospitals executives who may lose millions of dollars if their patient satisfaction scores are not at the top of the pack,” said hospital administrator Fred Lee, who has also worked as a Disney health consultant some years ago.
More than 25 hospitals, since last October, have signed consulting agreements with The Walt Disney Co.; training sessions are given at Disney, as well as on hospital campuses.
Disney charges anywhere from $1,299 for a 3.5-day training program (per person at Disney World), to $5,000 for a keynote speaker to visit a hospital, to hundreds of thousands of dollars for multi-year consulting arrangements, according to Kaiser Health News.
